对于某一种生物的种群在食物链中处于上位而将作为其死亡因素的另种生物，称为这个种的天敌。天敌主要系与病虫害防治有关的用词，往往是指对某个动物种的群体起作用的捕食动物、寄生动物（捕食寄生的动物）及病原体（ pathogen）。但是在防除杂草（ weed control）上，则是指吃杂草的植食性动物。
