鸽子嗉囊侧壁内面所具有的膨出部，形成嗉囊乳的组织。鸽子在 18天孵卵期的后半期，雌雄个体这部分上皮都逐渐加厚，厚度可达平时的 20倍，在鸽雏孵化后约 3周的育雏期中，该部细胞发生脂肪变性，成为嗉囊乳落入嗉囊腔中，幼雏嘴对嘴地接受嗉囊乳。这个变化主要是由前叶保黄体激素所引起，如果在一侧嗉囊侧壁外面移植脑垂体前叶，则只有该侧的嗉囊壁出现刺激效果。利用这个现象可以检查各种组织或提取物中有无促黄体激素。
