肉果的一种。指中心有一个硬核的果实。樱、梅（ Prunus mume）、桃、胡桃等的果实均属此例。外果皮薄，中果皮多肉，细胞液丰富，可供食用，但内果皮是由坚硬的石细胞构成，称为核，其中有一个种子。此外，核果中其特别小的称为小核果，悬钩子属（ Rubus）的果实为小核果的聚合体。
