又称菜花，双子叶植物，十字花科，甘蓝的一个变种。叶片长卵圆形，先端稍尖，叶柄稍长。茎顶端有一个不正常发育的头状体（或称花球），由密集加粗的褪色总花梗、花梗和未发育的花及苞片而成。乳白色。性喜温暖气候，耐寒和耐热力均弱，主要在春、秋季栽培。我国温暖地区栽培较普遍，头状体（即花球）可作蔬菜，叶可作饲料。
