指对新的刺激的注意反应。身体或身体的某一部分其对向刺激的方向是可以直接观察到的，但对它的生理过程，则可通过监测的方法，如脑电波、肌电波、皮肤的电反射、心搏等的变化进行间接的了解。如果对所采取的刺激重复进行，则可产生习惯现象，定位反应减少。另外在巴甫洛夫的条件反射中，称定位反应为定位反射。
