金（colloidalgold）也称金溶胶（goldsol），是由金盐被还原成原金后形成的金颗粒悬液。胶体金颗粒由一个基础金核（原子金Au）及包围在外的双离子层构成，紧连在金核表面的是内层负离子（AuC1 2 － ），外层离子层H + 则分散在胶体间溶液中，以维持胶体金游离于溶胶间的悬液状态。 胶体金颗粒的基础金核并非是理想的圆球核，较小的胶体金颗粒基本是圆球形的，较大的胶体金颗粒（一般指大于30nm以上的）多呈椭圆形。在电子显微镜下可观察胶体金的颗粒形态。
