Bifunctional 3-phosphoadenosine 5-phosphosulfate synthase 2 ,also known as Sulfurylase kinase 2, PAPSS2 and ATPSK2, is a bifunctional enzyme with both ATP sulfurylase and APS kinase activity. which mediates two steps in the sulfate activation pathway. PAPSS2 is expressed in cartilage and adrenal gland. The N-terminal domain of this protein belongs to the APS kinase family and the C-terminal belongs to the sulfate adenylyltransferase family. Defects in PAPSS2 are the cause of spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Pakistani type which is a bone disease characterized by epiphyseal dysplasia with mild metaphyseal abnormalities.
