概述

Human Galectin-1 also named BHL,Galaptin,GBP,L- 14 and LGALS1,is belonging to the galectins family and it is encoded by the LGALS1 gene in human.Galectin-1 is expressed by the endometrial stromal cells throughout the menstrual cycle.Galectin-1 contains a single carbohydrate recognition domain through which it can bind glycans both as a monomer and as a homodimer.Dimers are non-covenantly bound and will spontaneou sly disassociate in low concentration.Galectin -1 may act as an autocrine negative growth factor that regulates cell proliferation.Galectin - 1 is thought to play a role in the immunosuppression required for a successful pregnancy.Human Galectin-1 shares 88%-90%amino acid sequence identity with rat and mouse.
