ITS is a mixture of insulin, transferrin, and selenium. It is a general cell supplement designed for use in classical media such as DMEM, RPMI-1640 and nutrient media such as Ham’s F-12, DMEM/F-12. ITS enhances cell proliferation and decreases the serum requirement of many cell types [1, 2, 3]. When ITS is used with a low percent serum, proliferation is reported to be similar to medium supplemented with 10 percent serum.
ITS is prepared in Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) without phenol red.

文献和实验胰岛素 insulin 脊椎动物胰腺中兰氏岛（ Yangerhans）的β细胞分泌的激素。 1921年由 F.G.Banting和 C.H.Best所发现。 insulin一名系由 insula（岛）而来。胰岛素可用酸性乙醇从胰腺中提取。 1926年 J.J.Abel已分离出胰岛素结晶，结晶中含有微量锌。单体的分子量为 5700，在中性溶液中可互相融合。 F.Sanger就作为牛胰岛素的蛋白质曾首次确定了其氨基酸的排列顺序（ 1955）。胰岛素的结构是，通过 S— S键
的第 6与第 11位氨基酸之间也有一个二硫键。 人胰岛素分子量为 5734道尔顿，等电点为 pH5.6。在酸性环境（ pH2.5～ 3.5）较稳定，在碱性溶液中易被破坏，可形成锌、钴等胰岛素结晶。又由于其分子中酸性氨基酸较多，可与碱性蛋白如鱼精蛋白等结合，形成分子量大、溶解量低的鱼精蛋白锌胰岛素。此种制剂注入皮下或肌肉吸收较慢，作用时间长，为长效胰岛素。从胰岛分泌的胰岛素，经门脉进入肝脏， 40～ 50％在肝内分解，其余进入体循环分布于全身。从静脉注射胰岛素， 90％在 20分钟内从血液中消失
