康宁CoolCell LX放入-80°C冰箱时，可实现降温速度为-1°C/分钟的无乙醇冷冻，这是大多数细胞和细胞系的理想冻存条件。结合使用密度均匀的交联聚乙烯泡沫、固态核心以及径向对称分布的冻存管，可获得一致且可重复的降温曲线。聚乙烯泡沫为非吸收性泡沫，对周围温度影响极小；因此可保护旁边的冷冻样品。这种低热量的特点还可确保CoolCell LX细胞降温盒从冰箱取出后可迅速恢复至室温。
