LS-F24718 is a 96-well enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the Quantitative detection of Mouse CTSD / Cathepsin D in samples of Cell Culture Supernatants, Plasma and Serum. It is based upon a Sandwich assay principle and can be used to detect levels of CTSD / Cathepsin D as low as 10 picograms per milliliter.
About CTSD / Cathepsin D
CTSD / Cathepsin D is a lysosomal aspartyl protease composed of a dimer of disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, both produced from a single protein precursor. This proteinase, which is a member of the peptidase C1 family, has a specificity similar to but narrower than that of pepsin A. Transcription of this gene is initiated from several sites, including one which is a start site for an estrogen-regulated transcript. Uniprot: P07339 NCBI: NM_001909 NP_001900.1

Background
 
Cathepsin D is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CTSD gene. This proteinase is a member of the peptidase C1 family, having a specificity similar to but narrower than that of pepsin A. It is mapped to 11p15.5. The cDNA encodes a 412-amino acid protein with 20 and 44 amino acids in a pre- and prosegment, respectively. Cathepsin D is one of the lysosomal proteinases. It is ubiquitously expressed and is involved in proteolytic degradation, cell invasion, and apoptosis. Mutations in this gene are involved in the pathogenesis of several diseases, including breast cancer and possibly Alzheimer disease and it has been considered as a breast cancer tumor marker.
