GPA is the carrier of blood group M and N specificities, while GPB accounts for S and U specificities. Glycophorin A is the major intrinsic membrane protein of the erythrocyte. The N terminal glycosylated segment, which lies outside the erythrocyte membrane, has MN blood group receptors and also binds influenza virus. Function: Glycophorin A is the major intrinsic membrane protein of the erythrocyte. The N-terminal glycosylated segment, which lies outside the erythrocyte membrane, has MN blood group receptors. Appears to be important for the function of SLC4A1 and is required for high activity of SLC4A1. May be involved in translocation of SLC4A1 to the plasma membrane. Is a receptor for influenza virus. Is a receptor for Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte-binding antigen 175 (EBA-175); binding of EBA-175 is dependent on sialic acid residues of the O-linked glycans. 文献和实验血型糖蛋白又称涎糖蛋白(sialo glycoprotein),因它富含唾液酸。血型糖蛋白是第一个被测定氨基酸序列的蛋白质,有几种类型,包括A、B、C、D。血型糖蛋白B、C、D在红细胞膜中浓度较低。血型糖蛋白A是一种单次跨膜糖蛋白, 由131个氨基酸组成, 其亲水的氨基端露在膜的外侧, 结合16个低聚糖侧链。血型糖蛋白的基本功能可能是在它的唾液酸中含有大量负电荷,防止了红细胞在循环过程中经过狭小血管时相互聚集沉积在血管中。
血型糖蛋白 glycophorin 为红细胞细胞膜的主要糖蛋白,分 A、 B、 C三种,占红细胞细细胞膜外在蛋白质之大部。糖残基都在膜之外侧。血型糖蛋白 A的糖残基都局限在 N末端,朝向膜之外侧, C末端富于亲水性氨基酸,朝向膜之内侧。中间部分富于疏水性氨基酸,形成疏水区埋于膜内。血型糖蛋白 A具 MN血液型活性, B具 Ss血液型活性,也是流感病毒或仙台病毒的受体。
