DPP IV is a glycoslyated, integral type II membrane protein of 766 amino acids. It is a serine protease,
removing dipeptides from the N-terminus of its substrates, with a specificity at the P1 position for proline
or occasionally alanine.
Multiple roles have been ascribed to DPP IV including inactivating several bioactive peptides and
mediating cell–cell and cell–extracellular matrix interactions (1).
