SUMO-Conjugating Enzyme UBC9 (UBC9) belongs to the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. UBC9 is homologous to ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s). However, instead of conjugating ubiquitin, UBC9 conjugates a ubiquitin homologue, Small Ubiquitin-Like Modifier 1 (SUMO-1). The conjugation of ubiquitin requires the activities of ubiquitin-activating (E1) and conjugating (E2) enzymes. It is suggested that UBC9 might play a role in DNA repair and perhaps even in aging.

Carcinoembryonic Antigen-Related Cell Adhesion Molecule 8 (CEACAM8) is a single chain, GPI-anchored, highly glycosylated protein which belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and the carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) family. CEACAM8 is expressed by neutrophils and eosinophils, and serves as a binding partner for CEACAM-6 and Galectin-3. It contains two Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains and one Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain. Mature human CEACAM8 is a 287 amino acid GPI-linked glycoprotein. CEACAM family members are a set of widely expressed proteins involved in several biological functions, including cell adhesion, migration, signal transduction, and the regulation of gene expression. Abnormal overexpression and downregulation of some CEACAMs have been described in tumor cells.

2-5-oligoadenylate synthase-like protein (OASL) contains 2 ubiquitin-like domains, and belongs to the 2-5A synthase family. The ubiquitin-like domains are essential for its antiviral activity. OASL can be induced by type I interferon (IFN) and viruses, and expressed in most tissues such as primary blood Leukocytes and other hematopoietic system tissues, colon, stomach and to some extent in testis. OASL can specifically interacts with the ligand binding domain of the thyroid receptor (TR) without the presence of thyroid hormone.It does not have 2-5-OAS activity, but can bind double-stranded RNA. It also displays antiviral activity against encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) via an alternative antiviral pathway independent of RNase L.
