A broad host range vector for the expression of heterologous genes in Rhodobacter capsulatus under the control of R. capsulatus puf promoter. pJAJ7 (ATCC 37648) & pJAJ9 (ATCC 37649) differ only in the orientation of the puf promoter. Expression can be modulated as oxygen starvation of R. capsulatus stimulates transcription from the puf promoter. Can be mobilized by conjugation from R. capsulatus into E.coli & other species that make up the host range of RK2. Restriction digests of the clone give the following sizes (kb): PstI–13; SstI–13; BamHI–13. (ATCC staff) Medium is 1273 LB plus tetracycline. Hosts: E.coli JM83, broad host range, E.coli.
