。有 8属约 300种，分布于温带和寒带，常生于潮湿地。中国产 2属约 80余种，分布于全国各地，以西南地区较多。 本科植物有些可编席、帽和制绳索；有的供药用，如灯心草、野灯心草等。灯心草茎髓含三肽类为 y-谷氨酰 -缬氨酰 -谷氨酸，并含芹素（ aPi genin，为 5， 7， 4′ -三羟基黄酮）及多糖类。功能利尿通淋，清热安神。灯心草的茎髓又可做灯心、枕心。
