Phenanthroindolizidine alkaloid which shows antitumor activity. Exhibits potent suppression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS; NOS II) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Enhances the phosphorylation of Akt (protein kinase B; PKB) and thus decreases the expression and phosphorylation levels of c-Jun protein, thereby causing the subsequent inhibition of AP1 activity. Exerts anti-inflammatory effects. Adenylyl cyclase modulator.
