Introduction
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a liver protein composed of fiveidenticalnon-glycosylated subunits, with a total molecular weight of 105kDa. CRPhas a variety of powerful effects related to immunology,inflammation,and coagulation. As a marker of low-level inflammation, CRPappears topredict future cardiovascular disease events among apparentlyhealthyindividuals. High plasma concentration of CRP was associatedwithincreased risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheralvasculardisease (1, 2, 3). CRP has also been associated with increasedrisks offatal coronary events among high-risk male smokers and incidentcoronarydisease among the elderly (4, 5). Studies have establishedtheprognostic usefulness of CRP in the setting of angina (6).Originallyused as a marker of acute inflammation, CRP has become aleadingcandidate as the measure of choice for estimating theinflammatorycomponent of cardiovascular disease risk.

Principle of the Assay
The AssayMax Canine C-Reactive Protein ELISA kit is designed fordetectionof Canine CRP in urine, plasma, serum, and cell culturesupernatants. Thisassay employs a quantitative sandwich enzymeimmunoassay technique thatmeasures CRP in less than 4 hours. Apolyclonal antibody specific forrat CRP has been pre-coated onto amicroplate. CRP in standards andsamples is sandwiched by the immobilizedantibody and biotinylatedpolyclonal antibody specific for CRP, which isrecognized by astreptavidin-peroxidase conjugate. All unbound materialis then washedaway and a peroxidase enzyme substrate is added. The colordevelopmentis stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
