Mouse anti TFEB antibody recognizes transcription factor EB, also known as bHLHe35. TFEB1 is a transcription factor which plays an important role in cellular processes including lysosomal biogenesis, cellular energy metabolism, lipid catabolism and autophagy. TFEB activity and localization is regulated by mTOR at the surface of lysosomes (Napolitano and Ballabio, 2016). When activated, TFEB controls the expression of genes that regulate biogenesis of lysosomes and autophagosomes (Nnah et al. 2019). Evidence has also shown that TFEB becomes activated in response to mitochondrial and ER stress, suggesting a role in cellular adaptation to stress (Raben and Puertollano 2016). TFEB is upregulated in a range of cancer types including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In late-stage colorectal cancer, it is been suggested that TFEB could regulate autophagy and promote tumor growth and metastasis (Liang et al. 2018).
