Mouse anti Human TRIM21 antibody recognizes the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase TRIM21, also known as RO52, RO/SSA, RING finger protein 81, SS-A and Sicca syndrome antigen A.
In humans, the TRIM family of proteins includes over 100 structurally similar proteins with a broad range of cellular roles. TRIM21 is an Fc receptor involved in the immune response within cells, binding to antibodies that are carried by pathogens into the cytosol, and activating protective inflammatory signaling and antiviral responses. (Foss et al. 2015). TRIM21 is associated with autoimmune diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren syndrome, involving hyperactivation of the type 1 interferon response (Kimura et al. 2017). TRIM21 has protective effects in hepatocellular carcinoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, but conversely, low levels of TRIM21 correlate with prolonged overall survival and disease-free survival in pancreatic cancer. These differences may reflect the differences in downstream targets of TRIM21 involved with different types of cancer (Nguyen and Irby 2017).
