背景介绍
Reg2 protein, an important member of the Reg protein family, is mainly expressed in pancreatic islet β-cells and has the function of promoting cell proliferation and protecting cells from damage. It is involved in the regulation of pancreatic islet cell regeneration and functional maintenance, and Reg2 expression is critical for maintaining glucose homeostasis in response to high-fat diet-induced obesity and aging. In addition, Reg2 protein exhibits protective effects on pancreatic islet β-cells in diabetes models and is able to attenuate streptozotocin (STZ)-induced injury. In autoimmune responses, Reg2 may also be involved in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes as a target. Therefore, Reg2 protein has important potential applications in diabetes research and therapy.
