Anti-Red/Green Opsin Recombina

Red and green opsins are light-sensitive proteins found in the cone photoreceptor cells of the retina, playing a crucial role in human color vision. These opsins belong to the class of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and are responsible for detecting medium (green) and long (red) wavelengths of visible light. The green opsin is known as OPN1MW (medium-wavelength sensitive opsin), while the red opsin is referred to as OPN1LW (long-wavelength sensitive opsin). Both opsins are encoded by genes located on the X chromosome, and their close genetic proximity often leads to recombination events that can result in color vision deficiencies, such as red-green color blindness.
