DYNC1I1 (Dynein Cytoplasmic 1 Intermediate Chain 1) is a key component of the cytoplasmic dynein complex, a motor protein responsible for transporting various cellular cargo along microtubules toward the minus-end, typically directed toward the cell center. As an intermediate chain, DYNC1I1 plays a critical role in linking the dynein motor machinery to its cargo, helping to regulate intracellular transport processes such as organelle positioning, endosome and lysosome trafficking, mRNA transport, and mitotic spindle orientation during cell division. It is also involved in critical functions during neurodevelopment, and changes in DYNC1I1 expression or function have been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and cancer.
