TrkB (Tropomyosin receptor kinase B) is a receptor tyrosine kinase encoded by the NTRK2 gene, primarily known as the high-affinity receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). TrkB is widely expressed in the central and peripheral nervous systems, where it plays a key role in neuronal development, synaptic plasticity, and cell survival. Upon binding with BDNF or neurotrophin-4 (NT-4), TrkB activates signaling pathways such as PI3K/Akt, MAPK/ERK, and PLCγ, which are crucial for learning, memory, and neuroprotection. Dysregulation of TrkB signaling is associated with various conditions, including depression, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.
