The voltage-dependent calcium channel gamma-8 subunit (CACNG8) is an auxiliary protein that modulates the function of both voltage-gated calcium channels and AMPA-type glutamate receptors. As part of the transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory protein (TARP) family, CACNG8 regulates the trafficking and gating properties of AMPA receptors, promoting their targeting to the cell membrane and synapses . It is predominantly expressed in the brain, especially in the hippocampus, and has been implicated in neurological conditions such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and antisocial personality disorder .
