It possesses RNA helicase, RNA triphosphatase, and protease activities, enabling it to unwind viral RNA, process the nonstructural polyprotein, and regulate replication complex formation. NSP2 also plays a role in suppressing host antiviral responses by interfering with innate immune signaling. Due to its pivotal functions in CHIKV replication and host interaction, NSP2 is widely studied as a target for antiviral drug development and molecular virology research.
