Monocyte chemoattractant protein-3 (MCP-3), also known as CCL7, is a chemokine that plays a crucial role in immune cell recruitment and inflammation. It belongs to the C-C chemokine family and is primarily produced by various cells, including endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and monocytes, in response to inflammatory stimuli. MCP-3 acts as a chemoattractant, primarily recruiting monocytes, dendritic cells, and T cells to sites of infection or injury. Beyond its role in immune cell trafficking, MCP-3 is implicated in various inflammatory conditions, such as atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma, and is considered a key mediator in both acute and chronic inflammation.
