快速老化模型小白鼠（Senescence Accelerated Mouse，SAM）由日本京都大学竹田俊男教授经20年近代延交培育而成，具备均一的遗传背景和稳定老化病态特征。SAM品系中，P8和P10除具有P品系的一般老化症状外，伴快速老化自然出现学习记忆力障碍和低恐怖低紧张状态，为脑老化痴呆模型小白鼠；其共同点是均具有认知障碍，且在渡过生长期后（4～6月），伴快速老化自然发生，与临床痴呆的渐进性发生极为相似。另外两者还各具特点，病理变化具有一定的差异。P8脑中主要出现明显的β-淀粉样蛋白
