描述：Noggin是可扩散蛋白家族的成员，其可结合TGF-β家族的配体分子，并通过抑制后者与相应信号传导受体的接近而调节配体分子的活性。TGF-β配体与其天然拮抗剂的相互作用在发育进程中具有重要的生物学意义，体现在细胞的应答会因局部信号分子浓度的改变而出现显著的差别。Noggin最初认为是BMP-4(该蛋白在头部和其它背部结构正确成型中起关键作用)的拮抗剂，后来的研究显示，Noggin也调节其它BMPs(骨形态发生蛋白),如BMP-2,-7,-13和-14的活性。在小鼠中敲除Noggin基因会导致产前死亡和一种退化表型，即严重的骨骼系统畸形的出现。相反，在成熟的成骨细胞中过表达Noggin,转基因小鼠则会出现成骨细胞分化受损、骨形成减少和严重的骨质疏松等症状。Noggin 作为 Wnt 信号通路及 BMP 信号的重要调控因子，在众多组织器官发育过程中起着重要作用。

Recombinant Human Noggin is a 46 kDa disulfide-linked homodimer consisting of two 205 amino acid polypeptide chains. Monomeric glycosylated noggin migrates at an apparent molecular weight of approximately 28.0-33.0 kDa by SDS PAGE analysis under reducing conditions.
