聚乙二醇（polyethylene glycol，PEG）是一种无电荷的直链大分子多糖，可非特异性地引起蛋白质沉淀。沉淀具有可逆性，被沉淀的蛋白质生物活性亦不受影响。不同浓度的PEG可沉淀分子量不同的蛋白质，在pH值、离子浓度等条件固定时，蛋白质分子量越大，用以沉淀的PEG浓度越小。由于PEG6000对蛋白质沉淀具有良好的选择性，所以在IC测定中主要采用PEG6000。PEG使IC沉淀的机理可能在于使其自液相中空间排斥而析出，此外，PEG还可抑制CIC解离，促进CIC进一步聚合成更大的凝聚物
