酶免疫分析法用于定性测定人血清或血浆（柠檬酸盐）中抗TBE病毒的IgM类抗体。蜱传脑炎（TBE）病毒是Togaviridae的一种黄病毒。它是一种具有立方二十面体对称性的包膜单链RNA病毒，直径范围为20-80nm。在欧洲大陆，只有两种抗原亚型存在，它们的结构蛋白差异很小。该病毒主要通过蜱传播。中欧蜱类（以及人类）的污染程度从西到东不断增加，任何人都可能受到影响。特异性抗体产生终身免疫。TBE是人类最重要的蜱传播疾病，仅次于莱姆病，莱姆病由伯氏螺旋体引起。疾病的临床进程取决于感染者的免疫状态。原发感染组织中的高病毒产量是通过血脑屏障和导致中枢神经系统严重表现所必需的。
