Fatty acid binding protein (myelin) (M-FABP) plays a role in lipid transport protein in Schwann cells. M-FABP and myelin basic protein together constitute a major fraction of peripheral nervous system myelin protein. M-FABP comprises a 132 amino acid fragment (1-132) corresponding to the human myelin FABP protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
