Human Corneal Epithelial Cells (HCEC) from Invitrogen are normal corneal epithelial cells isolated from the progenitor-rich limbal region of the eye, and cryopreserved at the end of the secondary (2’) culture level in a medium containing 10% DMSO. HCEC are ideal for research into corneal biology including: inflammation and wound healing, investigating the effects of chemicals and components used for consumer products, and other studies into ocular function.
Get More Physiologically Relevant Results with Invitrogen Primary Cells
Cryopreserved HCEC are optimal for investigating cellular, molecular, and biochemical processes which occur in the human cornea. Human primary cell cultures closely mimic the in vivo state and enable generation of physiologically relevant data. Invitrogen HCEC are isolated from dissected limbal regions of the eye, where the cornea and sclera meet. Limbal tissue is known to be enriched for corneal epithelial progenitor cells. Our robust isolation and expansion process, optimized using Gibco® media, yields large single donor lots which ensure availability of consistent product for your studies.
Reliable Performance and Purity
Primary Human Corneal Epithelial Cells from Invitrogen are guaranteed to have ≥70% viability upon thaw, with each vial containing sufficient cells to seed ≥100 cm2 of tissue culture surface. Each lot of HCEC undergoes performance testing and is guaranteed to reach at least 12 population doublings (PD) after thaw when using Keratinocyte Serum Free Medium (KSFM). HCEC stain positive via immunocytochemical techniques for corneal epithelial markers Cytokeratin 15 and p63 alpha. Each lot is also tested for potential biological contaminants (HIV-1, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C viruses; mycoplasma; bacteria; and yeast and other fungi) to ensure quality and robustness.
Optimized for use with GIBCO® Media
Human Corneal Epithelial Cells from Invitrogen have been optimized for use with our serum-free media, specifically Gibco® Keratinocyte Serum Free Medium (KSFM) or Gibco® Defined Keratinocyte Serum Free Medium (DKSFM) when used in combination with the Coating Matrix Kit for applications where a defined growth system (no animal products) is important. Preparation of supplemented media is a simple process and the final solution can be stored for up to 30 days at 4° C protected from light.
