This endogenous neuropeptide regulates blood pressure, ion transport in the gut, mesenteric blood flow and adrenocortical function. It also decreases food intake and body weight, increases body temperature and heat production, and inhibits gastric acid secretion via the CRH system following central administration in vivo. Rat neuromedin U is a 23-mer corresponding to aa144-166 of rat precursor protein. |
