FGFBP1 acts as a carrier protein whose function is to release fibroblast-binding factors (FGFs) from their extracellular matrix storage, thus increasing their mitogenic activity. It also enhances FGF2 signaling during tissue repair, angiogenesis and in tumor growth. Expression of FGFBP1 is significantly up-regulated in cancer, in particular in carcinogen-induced skin tumors and other squamous cell carcinomas. mol wt:26kDa
