也称抗利尿激素（antidiuretic hormone，ADH）。为垂体后叶组织所提纯的一种激素。由下丘脑的视上核的神经内分泌细胞所合成。合成后，附着于神经纤维鞘内的载体蛋白，沿视上核—垂体束的轴浆向下流动而至垂体后叶微血管基底膜附近，贮存于后叶，并经常有少量释放入血液中。当视上核受刺激时，冲动沿下丘脑→垂体束到达神经垂体内大量释放加压素。其主要化学结构为8个氨基酸组成的多肽。其中两个半胱氨酸作为一个胱氨酸计算。人和大多哺乳类为精氨酸加压素。猫的加压素为赖氨酸加压
