光因素系环境因素之一。光对生物生活的作用可以从光量及光质的性质和日照时间来考虑。所谓光量的性质即亮度（照度），而光质的性质即波长组成。光量的性质是由太阳高度和介质的透光度决定的。光通过植物群落上层叶片到达群落下层，故群落下层的波谱分布移向短波。水深引起的波谱分布变化是显著的，通常，因清彻的水对长波光吸收很快，故达到深层的光大部分都是短波光。这种变化影响着藻类的垂直分布。就日照时间来说，从年累计看纬度对它引起的差异几乎是没有的，但从地理位置上看，高纬度地区季节变化对它影响却很大，在植物
对射线的吸收，即使量是相等的，但因射线质的不同，所以在生物效应上也是不同的，这就需要用一个系数加以修正，此称为射线质量系数，以Q或QF表示。在实际的射线防护方面已被采用。对估计人体被辐射的射线量当量（Sv或rem），应是生物学效应的射线量，而历来对吸收的射线量都是乘以RBE值，但根据ICRP的建议（1962），现在一般都乘以射线质量系数Q。正像对各射线都假定有一定的RBE值而计算的危险度过大那样，而对射线能赋与（LET）的关系而来确定的（表）。
