Mouse anti Human CD56 antibody, clone rAB03-1H8, is a recombinant monoclonal antibody that recognizes CD56, also known as human neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM).
CD56 is a cell surface glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. In the human hematopoietic system, CD56 is expressed on natural killer (NK) cells, alpha beta T cells, gamma delta T cells, dendritic cells and monocytes. As the name suggests, it is also expressed by cells of neuronal lineage. Three main isoforms of CD56 exist that differ in the intracellular domain. In NK cells, CD56 has been shown to act as a pathogen recognition receptor, promote cytotoxicity and stimulate exocytosis. In neuronal tissues, CD56 mediates homophilic and heterophilic adhesion, and is implicated in neural development, cell migration and synaptic plasticity.
CD56 is considered a classical surface marker of NK cells, which are usually divided into two subsets, CD56dim and CD56bright. NK cells in peripheral blood are predominantly CD56dim, whilst CD56bright NK cells are more prevalent in tissues. Expression of CD56 by NK cells can be used as an activation marker. Aberrant CD56 expression is associated with a range of tumors and malignancies, including tumors of the lung, neural derived malignancies, and natural killer cell lymphomas.

Use 5μl of the suggested working dilution to label 106 cells in 100μl. Best practices suggest a 5 min centrifugation at 6,000g prior to sample application.
