Calreticulin has been a multifunctional role as it appears to be involved in calcium storage and regulation as well as having a molecular chaperone activity. Studies also suggest its involvement in certain autoimmune diseases. Calreticulin is considered to promotes phagocytic uptake of cancer cells by immune system and manipulation of calreticulin levels profoundly affects cancer cell proliferation and angiogenesis as well as differentiation.
