Identification and enumeration of CD258 (LIGHT)+ cells by flow cytometryClone REA244 recognizes the CD258 antigen, a type II transmembrane protein, which is also known as tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 14 (TNFSF14), herpes virus entry mediator ligand (HVEML), or LIGHT, the acronym for “homologous to lymphotoxins, inducible expression, competes with HSV glycoprotein D for HVEM, a receptor expressed on T lymphocytes”. CD258 is expressed by activated T cells, NK cells, monocytes, granulocytes, and immature dendritic cells. The ligands of CD258 are HVEM, lymphotoxin β receptor, and decoy receptor DcR3/TR6. CD258 has been shown to stimulate the proliferation of T cells, and trigger apoptosis of various tumor cells. CD258 is also reported to prevent tumor necrosis factor alpha–mediated apoptosis in primary hepatocytes. Its blockade or targeted disruption can alleviate alloresponses, graft rejection, or graft-versus-host disease. | Additional information: Clone REA244 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors. |
