Cytokeratins, which are found in almost all epithelial cells, are polypeptides with keratin-containing intermediate filaments, which ensure form stability and cohesiveness. | Cytokeratin 7, a type II cytokeratin, is located in simple glandular epithelia, and in transitional epithelium but not in colon and prostate, ectocervix, and liver. Cytokeratin 7 is a useful marker for distinguishing ovarian carcinomas, containing Cytokeratin 7, from colon carcinomas. Cytokeratin 8, an intermediate filament protein, which is found in epithelial and carcinoma cells. In adult tissues Cytokeratin 8 is expressed as a heterodimer with Cytokeratin 18.
