Identification and enumeration of ChemR23 (CMKLR1)+ cells by flow cytometryClone REA455 recognizes the human G-protein–coupled receptor ChemR23 antigen, a multi-pass membrane protein which is also known as chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR1). ChemR23 is expressed by leukocyte populations such as macrophages, immature myeloid and plasmacytoid dendritic cells, as well as on a subset of natural killer (NK) cells. Its natural ligand, chemerin, is a small protein isolated and identified from human inflammatory fluids which acts as a chemoattractant agent for leukocytes expressing ChemR23. Activation of ChemR23 results in intracellular calcium release, inhibition of cAMP accumulation, and phosphorylation of ERK-1/ERK-2 MAP kinases. Chemerin and ChemR23 are involved in the recruitment of NK and dendritic cells (DCs) into tissues in several human inflammatory diseases.
