AKT1 is a serine/threonine protein kinase, belonging to the AKT family of kinases and like each AKT family member, contains an N-terminal pleckstrin homology (PH) domain, a central kinase domain, and a carboxyl-terminal regulatory domain with a hydrophobic motif (HM). Activation of AKT1 is achieved via phosphorylation at multiple sites, which take place in response to engagement of receptors such as platelet derived growth factor receptor (PDGF-R).
