Identification and enumeration of CD218 (IL-18Rα)+ cells by flow cytometryClone H44 recognizes the CD218 antigen, which is also known as interleukin-18 receptor α chain (IL-18Rα) receptor, is an heterodimeric receptor complex and composed of the IL-18Rα chain and the IL-1 receptor accessory protein-like (IL-1RacPL) or IL-18Rβ chain. CD218 represents the ligand-binding chain, whereas IL-18Rβ is suggested to assist in the formation of a high affinity complex and mediates intracellular signals. IL-18R is expressed on a variety of cells including macrophages, neutrophils, natural killer (NK) cells, endothelial, and smooth muscle cells and an upregulated expression is observed on naive T cells, T helper cell type 1 (Tʜ1) cells, and B cells, in the presence of IL-12.
