Identification and enumeration of CD179a (VpreB)+ cells by flow cytometryClone HSL96 recognizes the human CD179a antigen, also known as VpreB protein, which has an incompleted Ig V domain-like structure. In association with CD179b it forms a surrogate light chain. CD179a is exclusively expressed on early pre–B cells and pro–B cells. CD179a forms a molecular complex with the Ig-mu chain on pre–B cells. It seems that this complex plays a critical role in the regulation of Ig gene rearrangements in the early steps of B cell differentiation.
