INTRODUCTION

Interferon-beta 1a belongs to the type I family of interferons. IFNB1A binds to a heterodimeric receptor, known as the IFNα/β receptor (IFNAR) resulting in activation of various Jak/ STAT proteins. Activation of this signaling pathway leads to the stimulation of genes which inhibit viral infection and regulate MHC class I antigens. IFNB1A is mainly produced by fibroblasts and monocytes. On top of inhibiting viral infection, IFN beta is also involved in regulating and activating immune response against bacteria, parasite and tumor cells. Multiple sclerosis is characterized by a deficiency of IFN beta 1.

DESCRIPTION

IFNB1A Human Recombinant produced in HEK cells is a glycosylated protein having a molecular weight range of 18-22kDa due to glycosylation. The IFNB1A is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Sterile Filtered White lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder.

FORMULATION

The IFNB1A was lyophilized in Sodium Acetate pH 4.8, 150mM NaCl and CHAPS.

SOLUBILITY

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized IFNB1A in sterile H₂O.

STABILITY

Lyophilized IFNB1A although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution IFNB1A should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles. 

PURITY

Greater than 95% as obsereved by SDS-PAGE.

BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY

The activity as determined by dose dependent inhibition of proliferation of TF-1 cells1 was found to be ≤ 0.1 ng/ml.
