Mouse anti Human Cystatin C antibody, clone Cyst10 detects human Cystatin C, a member of the type 2 cystatin superfamily. Cystatin C is a potent inhibitor of cysteine proteinases, both endogenous (lysosomal cathepsins), and pathogenic. Cystatin C is a 13 kDa secreted protein which is found in high concentrations in biological fluids and is thought to be expressed by all human nucleated cells.
Changes in cystatin C have been documented in a number of cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis, amyloid angiopathy and myocardial infarction. Its low molecular weight also means that Cystatin C can be used as a marker of renal failure.

This product is shipped at ambient temperature. It is recommended to aliquot and store at -20°C on receipt. When thawed, aliquot the sample as needed. Keep aliquots at 2-8°C for short term use (up to 4 weeks) and store the remaining aliquots at -20°C.
Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended.
