Mouse anti Human galectin-8 antibody, clone 106.1, recognizes galectin-8 also known as Po66 carboxyhydrate binding protein. Galectin-8 expressed in many tissues including kidney, liver, cardiac muscle, lung, breast, colon, retina, pancreas, placenta, spleen, testis, uterus, vascular esophagus and brain (Hadari et al. 1995).
Galectin-8 is a member of the galactin family of proteins which cross-link cell surface glycol proteins in the extracellular space upon secretion and plays a role in many biological processes including cell growth and migration. Galectin-8 can either positively or negatively regulate cell adhesion, depending on the extracellular context. When at high concentrations galectin-8 has also been shown to trigger antigen independent proliferation of CD4+ T cells. While at low levels galectin-8 can act in a co-stimulatory signaling capacity that synergizes antigen specific CD4+ T cell responses (Metz et al. 2016).

This product is shipped at ambient temperature. It is recommended to aliquot and store at -20°C on receipt. When thawed, aliquot the sample as needed. Keep aliquots at 2-8°C for short term use (up to 4 weeks) and store the remaining aliquots at -20°C.
Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended.
