GM130 (Golgi Matrix protein of 130 kDa) is a cis-Golgi matrix protein that plays a key role in maintaining the structure and function of the Golgi apparatus, a central organelle involved in protein processing and trafficking. GM130 is a part of the Golgi matrix scaffold and interacts with other structural proteins and membrane-tethering factors to support Golgi organization, vesicle docking, and membrane fusion. It also participates in the reassembly of the Golgi after mitosis and has been linked to microtubule organization near the Golgi. By maintaining the structural integrity of the Golgi and regulating intracellular transport, GM130 is essential for proper cell polarity, secretion, and membrane trafficking, especially in highly polarized cells such as neurons and epithelial cells.
