ULBP-3 (UL16-binding protein 3) is a member of the ULBP family, which is a subset of the human NKG2D ligands. These proteins are expressed on the surface of various cells in response to stress or infection and play a critical role in immune surveillance. ULBP-3 interacts with the NKG2D receptor found on natural killer (NK) cells and certain T cells, activating these immune cells to recognize and eliminate stressed or abnormal cells, such as tumor cells or virus-infected cells. ULBP-3 is involved in regulating immune responses, particularly in cancer and viral infections, and is studied for its potential use as a therapeutic target in enhancing anti-tumor immunity and immune responses.
